The Author

Jack Tilburn is Australia's leading shareholder activist, willing to take on all Chairmen and convince them to provide maximum benefits to shareholders.

Mr Tilburn has a 24 year history of taking on the boards of the biggest companies, giants such as the AMP Society, AMP Limited's hostile takeover of GIO Australia Holdings Ltd, BHP Company Ltd and the Ok Tedi River Pollution scandal.

Stuart G Hornery AO, former Chairman of Lend Lease Corporation Limited, closes his Foreward to the book with the following observation "...there is still a role for constructive activists. Jack Tilburn is one of Australia's more colourful ones, and his book will interest and entertain all those that have an interest in the subject."

The Man

Living in one of Sydney's lovely northern beach suburbs, Jack Tilburn climbed from obscurity to lead the fight for a Better Deal for all small shareholders. Jack rose from humble beginnings - working in his parents' general store, as a clerk for Sydney County Council and as an assistant Cinema Projectionist at the Dee Why Cinema.

Jack joined the RAAF near the close of the Second World War, serving more than 3 years before going on to gain an Economics degree at Sydney University and a Diploma in Education. Twenty years of High School teaching in Australia and the UK followed, interspersed with periods of overseas travel and exploration.

Jack Tilburn finally became his own boss - a self-employed Landscape Contractor, Property investor and Shareholder. Not many other shareholders in Australia have attended more than 330 Annual General Meetings and Special General Meetings, however! Jack continues to lead the charge for transparency and honesty amongst the largest public corporations in Australia.
